What I learnt

Bridging the Gap

At my entrepreneurial venture, I bridged the gap between client vision and reality. Responding to RFPs, I translated needs into actionable plans. The true challenge, however, was transforming them into functional, yet limited-scope apps and games within tight budgets. So much over-selling at first!

A shared vision

This required deep understanding of the client's core vision and the creativity to find innovative, value-driven solutions. Prioritisation, streamlined development pipelines, and strategic use of freelance talent were crucial for success.

Delivering Results:

Crafting budget-friendly apps and games was a cornerstone of Luna Studios. My experience fostered resourcefulness in developing commercially viable solutions that met client expectations. This meant prioritizing features, optimizing pipelines, and leveraging freelance talent to stay within budget. Overall, Luna Studios equipped me to navigate the complexities of bringing impactful products to market, even with limited resources.

Launching my Studio and Securing Clients

In 2018, an exciting opportunity emerged when a contact requested a proposal for an educational entertainment (edutainment) quiz game. Recognising the potential, I assembled a small development team (just three of us!) and established my own studio. Our dedication paid off as we successfully launched the title, generating significant interest and paving the way for future projects.

Check a trailer below:

This experience showcased my entrepreneurial spirit and ability to:

  • Identify Business Opportunities: I recognised the potential within the edutainment market and acted upon it.

  • Build a Team: I assembled a team with the necessary skillsets to bring the project to fruition.

  • Deliver Results: We successfully launched the game, exceeding expectations and attracting new clients.

Following this success, I secured contracts with prominent clients such as Disney LATAM, Argentina's Official Airport, and various local edutainment companies, demonstrating my versatility and expertise in this growing market.

UX Research

UX Research

Tailored UX Research & Design

My UX research experience extends beyond typical user demographics. For instance:

  • Disney's Cars IP and Mattel Toys: I conducted in-depth research on the Cars intellectual property (IP) to identify potential gaming opportunities, besides checking out the Mattel Cars toys. Leveraging a team of freelancers, I developed game proposals, including initial artwork and project cost estimates, to present to Disney/Mattel management.

  • Argentina's Official Airport Project: For this web game, I tailored the user persona to airport attendants attending security and ethics seminars. This involved understanding their specific needs and challenges to create an engaging learning experience.

  • Others

These projects showcase my ability to adapt my UX research and design skills to diverse target audiences and brand requirements.

UX/UI Design

UX/UI Design

Balancing Budget and User Experience

While budget restrictions existed, a key focus for both games was a user-friendly interface. Given their web-based nature, we prioritized simplicity and clarity.

  • Disney's Cars IP: The interface embraced a vibrant color palette, large fonts, and an accurate representation of the Cars IP, ensuring a visually engaging and accessible experience for players.

  • Argentina's Official Airport Project (NDA applies): Following the airport's brand style guide, we designed simple characters, scenarios, and sounds to create an engaging and informative edutainment game for airport security and ethics training.

This approach ensured a positive user experience within the project constraints.

Leading and Empowering Teams

Similar to my role at GameComm, I spearheaded product development. This involved:

  • Team Formation and Management: I recruited and managed development teams, ensuring we had the necessary skillsets for each project.

  • Agile Workflow: I facilitated daily sprint meetings to maintain clear communication and track project progress.

  • Client Communication: I served as the primary point of contact with clients, managing feedback rounds, approvals, and negotiating iterations based on their input.

  • Mentorship: As a natural leader, I actively supported my team by providing guidance and mentorship in development practices, fostering a collaborative and learning environment.

By taking ownership and fostering a team-oriented approach, I ensured successful project delivery.

Client Feedback

Effective Client Communication and Negotiation

Despite the tight turnaround times (2-3 months per project), I maintained open communication with clients throughout the development lifecycle. This included actively managing client expectations, which could run high. By leveraging my strong communication and negotiation skills, I was able to effectively address feedback, prioritise requests, and secure approvals while minimising unnecessary iterations.
